As part of the “Speed” operation, traffic police officers will measure vehicle speeds both statically and dynamically, with particular attention to locations where road accidents caused by excessive speed occur most frequently. Police SPEED groups will also join the operation; their main task is to prevent dangerous behaviour on the road, including exceeding the permitted speed.
Failure to adjust speed to traffic conditions is the main cause of fatal road accidents. We appeal to drivers to comply with speed limits and to slow down in places where regulations and common sense require particular caution. Such increased vigilance is necessary, among other places, near pedestrian crossings, bicycle crossings and intersections.
We remind you that the following speed limits apply in Poland:
Built-up area – 50 km/h
Outside built-up areas:
- Single-carriageway road – 90 km/h
- Dual-carriageway road – 100 km/h
Expressways:
- Single-carriageway road – 100 km/h
- Dual-carriageway road – 120 km/h
Motorways – 140 km/h
Residential zones – 20 km/h
Detailed regulations are set out in Article 20 of the Act of 20 June 1997 – the Road Traffic Act.
