Jelenia Góra police officially on the tragedy:
A tragic incident occurred at a body of water in Wojanów. On 27 July, a 25-year-old resident of Karkonosze County most likely drowned. Police and prosecutors are currently investigating the circumstances of his death.
On 27 July, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers from Karpacz were called to the gravel pit in Wojanów, where, according to the report, two people were drowning.
At the scene, officers determined that two residents of Karkonosze County, aged 27 and 25, had arrived at the gravel pit at approximately 6:00 p.m. intending to swim. The men found what they believed was a safe way down to the water and entered it. Unfortunately, it turned out that the 25-year-old could not swim. When the older man noticed that his companion had disappeared beneath the water, he tried to help him but was unable to do so.
Witnesses pulled the 27-year-old ashore and notified the emergency services. Fire service units, including divers, were dispatched to the scene and began searching for the other man. His body was recovered after about an hour, but resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.

The 25-year-old’s body was secured for a forensic medical examination. Police and prosecutors are currently investigating the circumstances of this tragic incident.
Police appeal for common sense and caution: – Swimming is completely prohibited in the body of water where the tragedy occurred. It is a post-industrial water reservoir, very dangerous and not prepared for swimming. Entering the water can end tragically.
The incident occurred on Saturday, 27 July, in the afternoon, at the gravel pit in Wojanów (Karkonosze County). At one point, two men began drowning. The emergency services were called to the scene.

Paramedics lost the fight for the life of the 25-year-old man, who was taken from the water by the fire service at the reservoir (...). Despite advanced medical procedures, the drowning victim could not be saved.
Earlier, rescuers pulled the 27-year-old from the water. He was handed over to paramedics.
