Bolesławiec police officers received disturbing information about an elderly man who was reportedly in the area of the railway station. – At the scene, district officers from the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters found a senior man with whom it was initially difficult to establish any contact – explains Asp. Sgt. Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press officer of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. – Because of the high temperatures and the man’s condition, the police officers began their actions by buying water for the thirsty senior and moving to an air-conditioned police car.
She adds: – Step by step, the officers established the man’s name, where he lived and how he had come to Bolesławiec. A note with a family member’s telephone number, which the senior had in his pocket, helped with the enquiries. It turned out that the family of the 80-year-old man from Oława had already been looking for him.
The senior had neither drunk nor eaten anything all day, and the difficulties in communicating resulted from memory loss. As soon as the police officers received information from the paramedics called to the scene that the 80-year-old man did not require hospitalisation, they took him to the police headquarters, where they shared their food with him. Together, they waited for his family to arrive.
Police:
Let us remember that high temperatures are particularly dangerous for older people, so let us stay alert and respond when we notice that a senior may need help. Sometimes one call to the emergency number 112 can save someone’s life. Let us also pay attention to people who live alone. They may live somewhere near us. Let us offer help in the event of a possible crisis. Knowing that there is someone nearby whom one can rely on is also very important.
