Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec check the sobriety of not only motor vehicle drivers, but also cycling enthusiasts. – In recent days, officers checked 6 cyclists in the county whose behavior indicated that they might be under the influence of alcohol – reports asp. szt. On Friday evening in Bolesławiec, a police patrol noticed a cyclist riding from one side of the lane to the other. The test showed that the 59-year-old had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

The following day, officers intervened with an intoxicated cyclist who, while returning from a party, lost control of his bicycle and scraped against a parked vehicle. The rider had 3 per mille of alcohol.

Also on Saturday, in Gromadka Municipality, traffic officers checked a 49-year-old man who was riding a bicycle after consuming alcohol.

On Sunday, officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec detained another intoxicated cyclist. The 51-year-old had 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.

Then, during the night from Sunday to Monday, a police patrol on one of Bolesławiec’s streets noticed a cyclist who was having difficulty maintaining the proper course. Spokesperson: – The check of the 26-year-old confirmed suspicions that he was intoxicated.

Traffic officers detained two more drunk cyclists on Monday in Nowogrodziec Municipality. Asp. szt. A. Kublik-Rościszewska: – One of them also turned out to be a wanted person, among other things for drug-related offenses. The 32-year-old was detained and will spend the immediate future in prison.

What are the penalties for riding a bicycle while drunk?

Riding a bicycle while intoxicated carries a PLN 2,500 fine, while riding after consuming alcohol carries a PLN 1,000 fine.

Police officers remind the public that regardless of the vehicle we use, driving after consuming alcohol is prohibited.
