A reader wrote to us about an incident on Thursday, June 20 (the whole story allegedly began at around 5:30 p.m.):
I filed a report about a man. While I was taking a walk with my two children at the gravel pit (the gravel pit behind Mrówka – ed. istotne.pl), he threw something square, wrapped in a sweatshirt, into the water. He told me that if I told anyone anything, he would find me. He followed me and my children all the way to the [Kościuszki] housing estate. He said that he would not leave without me.
He threatened the woman that he would kill her, and even “f**k her up.” Our informant:
He talked about some mission, saying that I was the only one left to complete it. I reported it to the police. A patrol arrived. They tested him with a breathalyzer; he had a reading of 0.66 per mille. They suspected drugs. He was driving a red car without registration plates, not even a registration sticker. He had five different plates in the trunk.
And she continues: – The police said that I had to go to the station to file a report. I went there. They did not take my report and told me to wait several hours (it was 9 p.m. when I arrived at the station). I decided that I would come the next day. It turned out that the police had left the man on the housing estate, close to my home. They even left him the keys. Despite claiming that he was under the influence of some substances and alcohol.
She also adds: “He was talking nonsense, saying that he was in Germany, that he had missions, etc. The police – despite the threats he directed at me and his condition – did nothing to prevent his further actions. They left the keys with an intoxicated person (…). I think someone should look into this. Because this is not how uniformed services should operate. How are we supposed to feel safe?”
What is more, according to the reader, the man “drove away drunk at 11:15 p.m.”.
On Friday, we asked the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters about the matter. Senior constable Daria Lebiedzińska told istotne.pl:
The man involved in the intervention on June 20, who, according to the report, had thrown an unspecified object into a body of water, was communicative and admitted to throwing a bottle into the water. The police fined the man PLN 500, under a credit-ticket procedure; this constitutes an offense under Article 145 of the Code of Petty Offenses.
She also explains the matter of the car:
The police officers did not witness the man driving the vehicle, either before the intervention began or after it ended. After the intervention ended, the man went in his own direction.
She also adds:
During the intervention, the reporting person was informed that if the man had made any criminal threats against her, she had the right to file an appropriate report with the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters. To date, the woman has not filed a report.
Today we asked our informant whether she had filed the aforementioned report. She replied:
I went there that same evening. The duty officer asked me what I wanted to report, since the man had not done anything specific. I informed them that the police had left him with the car keys, etc. But no one was interested.
