The incident took place on 19 June. – Around noon, traffic police officers from Złotoryja stopped a Honda passenger car for a roadside check. After stopping the vehicle, it turned out that the car, designed to carry five people, contained—apart from the 30-year-old female driver—seven passengers: children aged from 4 months to 10 years – reports asp. Aleksandra Pieprzycka from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.

She adds: – The way some of the underage passengers were transported left much to be desired. The youngest child was transported correctly, in a safety seat on the front seat, while the other children travelled on the rear bench without appropriate safety devices, only partially fastened with seat belts.

The driver was sober and had the required licence. The spokesperson:

Unfortunately, because of the offence of carrying more passengers than specified in the vehicle’s registration certificate, the woman lost her driving licence for three months. Additionally, she received a fine and 15 penalty points for transporting the passengers improperly. The children were placed in the care of their family.

Lower Silesian police officers remind and appeal: – Let us be responsible drivers! In the car, let us always take care of our own safety and that of our passengers. Let us remember that driving without fastened seat belts or transporting a child without a safety seat can lead to tragedy.

They also add:

A child without a safety seat is completely defenceless during sudden braking or a sharp manoeuvre and at risk of injury, loss of health or even death. Failing to use seat belts, even by one person in the car, poses a huge threat not only to that person but also to the other passengers—in the event of an accident or even an apparently harmless collision. When a strong impact occurs, seat belts can not only save a person from death but, above all, minimise injuries.
