What makes drip coffee stand out?
This coffee-brewing method makes the drink taste best without any additions. Only in this way can we fully appreciate its flavor qualities. The method is particularly recommended for people who prefer delicate brews without intense bitterness. Drip coffee can have notes of sweetness and fruity acidity, making it an ideal choice for those who do not enjoy strong drinks.
Coffee can be prepared using various devices. These are usually a Chemex, V60 dripper, Kalita Wave, AeroPress or French press. The choice of equipment depends on individual taste preferences, the amount of time one wants to devote to brewing coffee and the available budget.
What is the ideal coffee for a drip coffee maker?
Coffee for a drip coffee maker should be lightly roasted, as this preserves its natural flavor characteristics. It is best to choose specialty coffees, as they offer the most interesting experiences. Information about the roast level of the beans and the recommended brewing method should be included on the packaging. Arabica is an excellent choice because of its deep aroma, distinctive flavor and lower caffeine content than robusta.
How to prepare coffee for a drip coffee maker?
Because beans quickly lose their aroma after grinding, it is best to grind them immediately before brewing. However, it is important not to grind them too finely. Ideally, they should resemble sea salt in size. A burr grinder is perfect for this purpose because it ensures uniform grinding and allows the grind size to be adjusted. What are the next steps?
- Place a disposable filter in the upper part of the coffee maker and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste.
- Next, pour the appropriate amount of coffee into the filter. The usual coffee-to-water ratio is approximately 6 grams per 100 ml. Of course, we can adjust the amount to suit our own preferences.
- Before starting the brewing process, it is worth filling the vessel with hot water to warm it up. This will help the coffee maintain the right temperature throughout the process.
- Now it is time to pour water over the coffee. The best water temperature for brewing is approximately 90–96°C. Pour it evenly. To begin, pour a small amount of water over the coffee—ideally twice the amount of the ground beans in the filter. Continue slowly, making circular motions. The entire process should take approximately two minutes.
Once brewing is complete, remove and discard the paper filter. The coffee is ready to serve. If preparing the drink for a larger number of people, we can use a Chemex or another vessel as a serving carafe.
