Last Saturday, after 8:00 a.m., at one of the supermarket car parks in Legnica, a resident of the city noticed a man who, staggering, got into a vehicle, started the engine and attempted to drive away. – The witness prevented him from driving any further by taking away his keys and notifying the police – reports Junior Aspirant Anna Tersa of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.

She adds: – A traffic patrol confirmed the reporting party’s suspicions. The 53-year-old Ukrainian citizen had 3 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled breath. Monitoring-camera footage confirmed that he had driven to the shop alone, driving a car to buy alcohol.

The man was detained and will now face the court under expedited proceedings. The spokesperson said: – His blood was also taken for further tests, and his driving licence was confiscated.

The officers summed up:

Once again, the proper conduct of a witness helped prevent a drunk driver from continuing his journey and perhaps avert another tragedy on the road.

We remind you that driving a car while intoxicated carries a penalty of up to 3 years in prison, loss of one’s driving licence, a driving ban and a heavy fine.
