The incident occurred on Sunday morning, at around 10 a.m., in the centre of Złotoryja. – The duty officer at the local police unit received a report from a woman who witnessed the incident and recorded it on her mobile phone – explains aspirant Dominika Kwakszys, press officer of the District Police Headquarters in Złotoryja.
Police officers who arrived at the scene established in a conversation with the woman that the man had climbed the streetlamp twice. He was probably trying to remove a flag bearing the city’s colours. The spokesperson said: – The first attempt was unsuccessful, but the second time the man removed the flag. Unfortunately, he also caused the lamp to break at its base and crash onto the pavement.
The glass shades and flower boxes attached to it were also damaged. The total losses were estimated at several thousand złoty.
The vandal was arrested and taken into police custody. Aspirant D. Kwakszys: – After sobering up, he was questioned and charged with intentional damage to property, and his act was classified as a hooligan offence. The court will decide his fate. He faces up to 5 years in prison.
