– In June, smoother journeys to the Karkonosze Mountains await us. We widened the tunnel on the Wrocław–Jelenia Góra route, on which more than 30 trains run daily – informs Marta Pabiańska from the press team of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. – The tunnel-in-tunnel construction technology kept changes to transport services to a minimum. We allocated approximately PLN 130 million from the state budget to the investment carried out in the Góra Tunelowa massif.

She adds: – Residents of towns along the railway line from Wrocław via Wałbrzych to Jelenia Góra, as well as tourists, are increasingly using rail for everyday and occasional journeys. The rebuilt tunnel on this route, between Janowice Wielkie and Wojanów, will make it easier to prepare the timetable. Travel time will be shortened by approximately four minutes starting with the June timetable adjustment. Trains travelling in both directions will be able to pass through the 300-metre tunnel simultaneously. The route’s greater capacity will allow carriers to increase the number of services to the capital of Lower Silesia and the Karkonosze Mountains.

Commissioned by PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A., the project worth approximately PLN 130 million – “Revitalisation of the line tunnel at km 118.700 together with associated infrastructure”, carried out as part of the project “Works on railway line no. 274 Wrocław–Zgorzelec on the Wrocław–Jelenia Góra section and the adjacent connecting lines” – was completed by PORR.

The company announces: – On 27 May 2024, an agreement with KPO was signed with the same contractor for another project on the Wrocław–Jelenia Góra railway line, worth PLN 125 million. Two bridges and four viaducts will be renovated, as well as eight railway-road crossings.
