Update: 28 May 2024
Zgorzelec police on yesterday’s accident:
Yesterday, before 7:00 p.m., a fatal road accident occurred at the 3rd kilometre of the A4 motorway. Under the supervision of a prosecutor, officers from the Traffic Division and the investigative division, including a forensic technician, as well as an accident reconstruction expert, worked at the scene.
According to the findings, for an undetermined reason, the 41-year-old driver of a Man truck hit the rear of the trailer of the truck combination ahead of him, which was standing in a traffic jam. That vehicle, in turn, struck a Volkswagen passenger car in a domino effect, and the Volkswagen then hit another truck. Unfortunately, the driver of the Man vehicle died at the scene as a result of the incident.
Officers add:
We appeal to all drivers to follow traffic regulations, exercise common sense and remain vigilant. Since the beginning of 2024, there have been 61 road collisions and yesterday’s fatal accident on the A4 motorway in Zgorzelec County. The main causes of these incidents were failing to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead and improper lane changes. Therefore, we remind you that drivers are required to maintain an appropriate, safe distance between vehicles. This distance must be sufficient to avoid a collision if the vehicle ahead brakes or stops. It allows drivers to observe the situation on the road and gives them time to react in the event of danger.
The incident occurred before 7:00 p.m. at the 3rd kilometre of the A4 motorway in the direction of Zgorzelec. Three trucks and one passenger car collided. The driver of the last truck crashed into the other vehicles. He died at the scene.
Police blocked traffic on the A4 at the Godzieszów interchange; all vehicles are being diverted onto DK 94.
Two units from JRG Zgorzelec and three OSP units from Zgorzelec County are at the scene. The Specialist Technical Rescue Group from Bolesławiec is also operating at the scene, with three units.
