The incident took place on 1 May.
Firefighters from Nowogrodziec:
(…) at 5:18 p.m., a call came in about a fire in wasteland on wetlands near the A4 motorway, in the vicinity of the Czerna rest area. Our heavy-response unit set out for the incident. At the scene, we helped units from Czerna, Wykroty and Zebrzydowa bring under control the fire that was threatening the nearby forest.
They added: – An additional unit from JRG Bolesławiec and OSP Gierałtów were called in. A firefighting aircraft from the State Forests dropped water.
The danger was eliminated; fortunately, no one was injured.

The difficulties at the scene included strong winds, the inability to reach the site with fire engines, as well as wetlands and numerous streams that the firefighters had to wade through to reach the sources of the fire.
