The cross was cut down during the night of April 3–4, near the Church of St. Maximilian Maria Kolbe in Bogatynia. The Bogatynia parish informed about the incident on April 4, on its website:
It is with a heavy heart that I inform the Parishioners that tonight, that is, from April 3 to 4, the Mission Cross was sawed down.
On April 5 at 4:30 p.m., a penitential Mass was scheduled to be celebrated in the parish church near which the cross was cut down, presided over by Bishop Andrzej Siemieniewski.
