During the February meeting of the members of the Steering Committee of the Integrated Territorial Investments of the Western Functional Area, important decisions were made concerning, among others, the residents of Bolesławiec County. A resolution was adopted on the list of strategic projects under the territorial instrument of the ITI WFA to be implemented as part of the European Funds for Lower Silesia 2021–2027.
The document includes three projects of Bolesławiec County. The funding obtained for this purpose by the county authorities amounts to PLN 13,781,960.
Most importantly, a Care Services Centre will be established in Bolesławiec. It will be located in the former headquarters of the County Police Headquarters (Zygmunta Augusta Street). – A new operating block, renovated wards, new ambulances, new diagnostic equipment, MRI scanners and CT scanners – these are the things that have been achieved at our county hospital during this term. But now we have obtained more than PLN 5 million, which will be allocated to the construction of a nursing and care facility, that is, the part of the hospital’s activity dedicated to people requiring round-the-clock medical care – emphasises Bolesławiec County Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak.
Polish society is ageing. That is why it is so important to provide the county’s residents – including senior women and men from Bolesławiec County – with such a place. A place that will guarantee people who do not require hospitalisation not only appropriate treatment, but also proper nursing care and rehabilitation.
– I am very pleased that this activity will also be carried out in our hospital, because it is very important for all our residents – adds Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak.
The task will be carried out by Szpital św. Łukasza w Bolesławcu. The investment is worth nearly PLN 7.6 million. European Union funding: more than PLN 5.3 million.
County: high-quality education
Another subsidised task is an educational project aimed at improving the quality and attractiveness of the educational offer of vocational upper-secondary schools in Bolesławiec County.
– A high standard of teaching has always been the most important thing both for Bolesławiec County and for me personally. We have secured another major grant: more than PLN 4 million, which will be allocated to teacher training and, equally importantly, to raising the standard of teaching through additional lessons in subjects that are key for students at our secondary schools – says Bolesławiec County Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak.
Reality is changing before our eyes, and technology is developing ever faster. Therefore, recognising the need to update knowledge and adapt teaching to the dynamically evolving labour market, Bolesławiec County will implement another important educational project. The aim? To improve the quality and attractiveness of the educational offer of vocational upper-secondary schools in Bolesławiec County.
All county schools providing vocational education will take part in the project:
- Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych,
- Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych,
- Zespół Szkół Budowlanych,
- Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych,
- Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych.
The plan is for half of the students at each of the above-mentioned institutions to take part in the additional classes, totalling more than 1,500 people.
The programme will include classes developing key competences, qualification courses ending with certification, as well as educational and career guidance programmes, both group and individual. Teachers have not been forgotten either – professional development in vocational education is planned for the teaching staff.
– This is another project of this kind that will be implemented in our county. I believe it will significantly improve the standard of education and, above all, increase the chances of graduates of county schools on the labour market – adds Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak.
The project is worth more than PLN 6.2 million. European Union funding: nearly PLN 4.4 million.
Education in even better conditions
It is also worth mentioning another important investment – the comprehensive thermal modernisation of Bolesławiec’s “Handlówka”.
– Over the past five years, we have managed to renovate our county schools: I Liceum Ogólnokształcące, Zespół Szkół Elektronicznych and Zespół Szkół Budowlanych – lists Bolesławiec County Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak. – Now it is time for Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych.
Bolesławiec’s “Handlówka” is set for comprehensive thermal modernisation, covering both the school building and the gymnasium. The investment will include, among other things:
- insulation of the external walls together with the installation of a façade,
- roof insulation,
- insulation of the gymnasium floor,
- replacement of external doors and windows in the buildings with new ones.
Moreover, the central heating system will be modernised in both of the buildings mentioned. Importantly, the heat source will also be replaced through the use of a hybrid system consisting of a ground-source heat pump and a gas boiler. Photovoltaic installations will also be installed. All this will make heating the ZSHiU buildings both cheaper and more environmentally friendly.
– We are beginning steps aimed at signing the grant agreement and, ultimately, carrying out this important project – informs Starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak. The estimated value of the task is PLN 6 million. European Union funding: PLN 4.2 million.
