The matter came to light last year, before All Saints’ Day. Mr Stanisław, a retiree from Lower Silesia, wanted to prepare his grandfather’s grave. It turned out that the monument had disappeared. – I went to the cemetery office in Bolesławiec. They conducted their own investigation and said they did not know what had happened. So I reported the matter to the police – the man told the reporter from “Intervention”.

Iwona Plizga, head of the Cemetery Administration Department in Bolesławiec, told the Polsat magazine:

There are two deceased people buried in our cemetery who have the same first and last name. I suspect—but this is only my suspicion, which I reported to the law enforcement authorities—that such a mistake may have occurred. The wrong gravestone may have been dismantled by accident.

It is known that Mr Stanisław’s grandfather’s gravestone was destroyed. The problem is that... it is not known by whom. The prosecutor’s office discontinued the case because—as we hear in the report—“no one admitted to the vandalism.”

In an interview with “Intervention”, one of the stonemasons emphasized that his company had not dismantled the gravestone. A moment later, he declared that the stonemasonry business would repair the monument free of charge.
