The incident took place several days ago on one of the streets of Lubań. – The men suspected in the case got into a vehicle parked on Spółdzielcza Street and ordered a ride to Fabryczna Street. The 34-year-old, a resident of Lubań, sat next to the driver, while informing him that he would pay for the ride in dollars – reports asp. szt. Justyna Bujakiewicz-Rodzeń, press officer of the Lubań District Police Headquarters. – The younger man got into the vehicle and sat in the back seat.
She adds: – When it came time to pay, the passenger grabbed the taxi driver by the neck and threatened him if he demanded payment for the ride.
The perpetrators then robbed the victim and fled the scene.
The Lubań police took up the case. The spokesperson said:
It was only a matter of time before they were arrested. Based on surveillance footage, interviews with witnesses and a thorough reconnaissance of the area, they identified the suspects. The notice about the men’s arrest was sent to on-duty police officers from the prevention unit, who tracked down and arrested the 22-year-old. The second perpetrator was apprehended by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department.
The prosecutor placed the suspects under police supervision. Both are also prohibited from contacting or approaching the victim. The older of the arrested men is a repeat offender, which is why he faces a sentence of up to 22.5 years in prison.
