Adrian Zandberg: – I came here to Bolesławiec to support an excellent candidate in the elections to the Regional Assembly. The leader of our local structures, a teacher from Bolesławiec and also an organiser of the Women’s Strikes, Zuzanna Królak, is running here from Bolesławiec, Jelenia Góra and the entire Regional Assembly constituency. In these local elections, we are running with a pro-social, pro-worker programme focused on good public services and high-quality jobs. As for the details of the local programme, I will give the floor to Zuzanna

Zuznanna Królak: – Great, thank you very much. One of the fundamental problems facing cities in our region, such as Bolesławiec, Lubań and Lwówek Śląski, is the declining population. Young people most often leave here to attend a university somewhere in Wrocław, Poznań or Warsaw. And most often, they stay there. We would like to reverse this trend. Obviously, the more residents and the more workers there are, the more tax revenue remains here in the local government budget. So what people, especially young people, need above all is good jobs. And not on the principle that we sell land to foreign companies so they can set up assembly plants and warehouses here and employ people at the minimum wage. No. We need specialists, and we need to offer them good, well-paid and dignified work. The local government can be such an employer, as can regional and county hospitals. Innovative companies could also be such employers; we would like to allocate to them money that will soon flow to local governments from the National Recovery Plan. What else do young people need? They need places to live. Here, the Left wholeheartedly supports a programme to build affordable housing for low-cost rental. Thirdly, young people need to live in places that are well connected, so that if they go somewhere for a night out, they can get back home. We have many different ideas. We would simply like to keep these people here. Encourage them to live in our region. And we know how to achieve this.
