The opening ceremony of the renovated Stanisław Wyspiański Youth Cultural Center in Bolesławiec took place on Tuesday, March 26. The ceremony was opened by Dariusz Uściński, the institution’s director, who emphasized that the MDK community had been waiting for this moment for nearly two years. – We are extremely happy that we are returning here. We are very grateful to everyone who contributed to making it possible for us to return to our home at 5 Grunwaldzka Street – he noted.
The head of the Youth Cultural Center thanked by name, among others, Bolesławiec County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak (“If it were not for his reserves of kindness, patience and assistance at every stage of our efforts, we would not be standing here”), as well as three department heads from the Bolesławiec County Office: Head of the Investment and Public Procurement Department Ewa Rendecka-Woch, Head of the Education, Culture and Sport Department Katarzyna Zięba and Head of the Organizational Department Alicja Lech.
There were also thanks for all MDK employees, who continued their educational mission without any interruptions and with considerable success. The director also emphasized that despite the space constraints caused by the nearly two-year renovation, the Youth Cultural Center gained more students. (There are currently more than 700.)
– This task was a team effort – said Bolesławiec County Head Tomasz Gabrysiak. – I am very pleased that all the County’s educational institutions and County Office employees were able to communicate with one another. This proves that unity builds.
The head of the Bolesławiec County Board mentioned that the scope of the work was originally supposed to be completely different: – We were supposed to limit ourselves to the electrical installation, minor repairs and renovating the basement.
During the work, however, it turned out that the ceilings, walls and roof truss all needed renovation. The County Head said: – But we managed to complete this project and secure funding for it.
During the ceremony, Chairman of the Bolesławiec County Council Wojciech Kasprzyk addressed Dariusz Uściński: – I hope, Director, that this building will serve our young people and that we will be able to hold many excellent cultural events and initiatives here.
Importantly, the renovated facility now has room both for a ceramics studio and for a kiln. What is more, it was announced during the ceremony that concerts and exhibitions will once again be held at the MDK.
The building’s dark chapter in history was not forgotten either. (After World War II, the Security Office was located there. The communist security service detained opponents of the regime in the basement.) These places were commemorated with due respect.
The Tuesday ceremony was enhanced by performances by the Klaver ensemble under the direction of Marek Łętowski, as well as photographs by members of the “Camera” Photographic Association.
The investment cost more than PLN 4 million. Bolesławiec County obtained a substantial portion of the funding for this project from the Polish Deal program.
