On Thursday, 21 March, scammers once again called seniors in Bolesławiec County. In 3 cases they were unsuccessful, but one senior woman lost 30,000 zlotys.

It is worth regularly reminding people about the methods used by scammers, because from time to time criminals call elderly people living in Bolesławiec County and, by misleading them, try to take their life savings. The perpetrators most often call landlines, obtaining the number and subscriber’s name from old telephone directories. They present themselves as a grandchild or nephew, or as someone who wants to help a member of our family. The voice on the phone may be distorted, and the fake grandchild says that he is ill. The caller explains that he is calling on someone’s instructions or is the lawyer of a family member who caused an accident and needs immediate financial assistance.
The scammers say that a friend, courier or lawyer will come to collect the money. After some time, this acquaintance or the “grandchild’s” representative appears at the agreed location. In this way, people lose their money.
