As Łukasz Molak – IMPULS LOKALNY candidate for Mayor of the City notes: – Bolesławiec began to suffocate, so the city authorities introduced a Paid Parking Zone, which failed to deliver the expected results, apart from filling the coffers of the company operating the parking meters. The SPP effectively reduced the number of parking spaces, while the city was disfigured with red-and-white posts. Supermarkets, marketplaces and the PKP railway station introduced paid parking on their lots adjoining the zone to prevent all-day parking there. All this significantly made life more difficult for residents.
The abolition of the SPP must unequivocally be combined with the restoration of efficient suburban transport and free municipal MZK service. The construction of an underground or above-ground multi-storey car park under a public-private partnership should also be considered.
Advantages of our proposal:
- efficient suburban transport and continued free municipal MZK service,
- decongesting the city, reducing the flow of cars from neighboring towns and improving traffic flow,
- increasing the availability of free parking spaces,
- the natural abolition of paid parking at supermarket lots, the PKP station, marketplaces, etc., which currently adjoin the SPP and are forced to adopt such solutions,
- increased mobility for residents,
- cleaner air, which is particularly important for the health of children and seniors,
- Bolesławiec residents will feel like hosts, rather than intruders, in their own city.
– Residents have recently witnessed significant negative effects of introducing the Paid Parking Zone, prompting a reassessment and review of the system. Recognizing the challenges facing the city, the benefits that could result from eliminating the SPP should be considered. Its abolition could help improve relations between the local government and residents. It is also worth noting that the city has not introduced the option of paying for a subscription online, which is an additional form of harassment – says Łukasz Molak – IMPULS LOKALNY candidate for Mayor of Bolesławiec.
The abolition of parking fees may be seen as a gesture toward residents, expressing concern for their comfort and quality of life. As a result, abolishing the SPP in the city may bring numerous benefits for residents, commerce and the environment. Better air quality, fewer traffic jams, easier access to municipal amenities and better relations with the local government are just some of the many positive effects that could result from this change.
The city needs an IMPULSE for further development and an improved quality of life for its residents. Therefore, please go to the polls on April 7 and vote for IMPULS LOKALNY candidates.
A little history:
- In accordance with the expectations of Bolesławiec residents, as the IMPULS LOKALNY
- Councilors’ Club we submitted to the chairperson of the Bolesławiec City Council on June 7, 2021, a draft resolution to repeal the resolution of May 20, 2020, concerning the establishment of the Paid Parking Zone in Bolesławiec, in order to launch public consultations on the matter. - The Bolesławiec City Council, by a majority of votes from the city mayor’s councilors (the so-called “Nonpartisan” group, now “Forum,” “Ziemia Bolesławiecka” and unaffiliated councilors), did not heed the demands of Bolesławiec residents and voted against our draft resolution to repeal the resolution concerning the SPP and refer the matter for public consultation (7 in favor, 14 against).
