Bolesławiec police: – Posing as police officers, the fraudsters called one of the seniors from Bolesławiec, informing him that an attempt might be made to steal his money. The perpetrators suggested that, for his own safety, the man should hand his savings over to a person indicated by them.
They added: – The senior handed over approximately PLN 120,000 in “safe hands”, thereby losing his entire life savings.
Officers:
Once again, we appeal to seniors:
- Do not keep large amounts of cash at home.
- Hang up when a phone conversation seems suspicious to you.
- Inform your immediate family members before deciding to hand money over to another person.
- If the caller claims to be a police officer, hang up, dial the emergency number 112 and report the incident.
The police do not do these things:
- We do not call seniors to inform them of a possible threat. (In the event of danger, uniformed police officers will be called to the scene).
- We do not ask anyone to hand over money or leave it in a designated place.
- We do not call seniors to inform them about ongoing operational activities.
- We do not involve citizens in our activities, especially not by using their financial resources.
- We do not send couriers, postal workers or lawyers to seniors to secure their property.
And they conclude: – If you have encountered a situation described in one of the points listed above, immediately call the emergency number 112 and report the incident. Wait for uniformed police officers to arrive and do not hand money over to anyone else. It is better to deposit your life savings in a bank accompanied by your loved ones.
