The incident occurred on Sunday, March 3. – Before 10:00 p.m., Legnica police officers detained a 39-year-old resident of Zgorzelec who, while driving a BMW on national road no. 94 towards Chojnów, fell asleep at the wheel, crossed into the opposite lane, drove into a roadside ditch and hit a tree – reports junior constable Anna Tersa from the Legnica KMP.

She adds: – The man had a strong smell of alcohol about him. A breathalyzer test showed 3 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.

What is more, it turned out that the 39-year-old had two court-imposed driving bans, including one for life.

The man complained of chest and head pain, so he was examined at a hospital in Legnica. It turned out there that he had not suffered any injuries, and he was therefore taken to police custody.

The 39-year-old will now face the court for the crimes he committed. Violating a court-imposed driving ban is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, while driving while intoxicated carries a sentence of up to 3 years in prison.
