Koleje Dolnośląskie trains will arrive in Zielona Góra for only the second time in their history. Previously, from 2014, they reached one of the capitals of Lubusz Voivodeship from the direction of Żary. Now, for the first time, they will arrive daily in the city of Bacchus via the Nadodrzańska route.
Koleje Dolnośląskie return to the “Nadodrzanka”
The launch of the connection to Zielona Góra is the result of an agreement between the authorities of Lower Silesian and Lubusz Voivodeships. From 10 March 2024, as many as eight pairs of yellow-and-white trains will run from Lower Silesia to Zielona Góra: four will run from Wrocław via Wołów and Ścinawa (five pairs on Fridays), while two pairs will run from Wrocław via Legnica and Lubin (plus a third pair from Legnica to Zielona Góra, connecting at Legnica station with a train from Wrocław Główny). Seven trains will depart daily from Zielona Góra to Wrocław—three via the “Nadodrzanka” and three via Lubin and Legnica; on Fridays, there will be eight. In addition, Polregio will operate four pairs on this route via the Nadodrzańska line.
“Thanks to the agreement between the voivodeship authorities, our trains will return to Zielona Góra. Years ago, we travelled to the capital of Lubusz Voivodeship via Żary; now we are returning to the Nadodrzanka. We have double reason to be happy. For our company, this is another major step forward, while passengers travelling this route will benefit from modern rolling stock,” says Damian Stawikowski, president of Koleje Dolnośląskie.
The restoration of a direct Wrocław–Zielona Góra connection is also highly significant for the Copper Basin.
“Legnica station currently handles 17,000 passengers a day, or 2.5 million annually. These figures demonstrate the demand for new destinations from the city on the Kaczawa. A direct regional connection with Zielona Góra is also excellent news, among others, for students of the University of Zielona Góra,” says Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesman for Koleje Dolnośląskie.
Connections to Zielona Góra are another Koleje Dolnośląskie route linking different regions. In addition to Lower Silesia, the white-and-yellow trains run to the Czech Republic, Germany and Greater Poland Voivodeship. Now, in Lubusz Voivodeship, passengers will be able to use Koleje Dolnośląskie connections not only in Nowa Sól, Żagań and Żary, but also in Zielona Góra.
The final closure of the tunnel in Janowice Wielkie
From 22 April, passengers using the Wrocław–Szklarska Poręba line should expect disruptions. Due to renovation works, the tunnel on the Janowice Wielkie–Wojanów section will be closed to traffic. Consequently, replacement bus services will be introduced on the Janowice Wielkie–Jelenia Góra section, while on the “Szklarka” and “Szrenica” trains they will operate on the Janowice Wielkie–Szklarska Poręba Górna section via Jelenia Góra and Piechowice.
This is the third and final closure of the tunnel on this section. Once the works are completed, trains will run on both tracks.
Other changes—more trains to the Czech Republic and Lubin
Good news for tourists who enjoy trips to our southern neighbours. With the new timetable, from 10 March this year an additional pair of trains will run on line D66 on the extended Sędzisław–Trutnov route, and from 27 April another two pairs will operate.
Seasonal connections to the Czech Rock City are returning to the timetable. From 27 April this year, two pairs of trains will run on the Wrocław–Adršpach line on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.
The timetable adjustment also means more train pairs, including on the Wrocław–Głogów route (from 11 March) and the Wrocław–Świdnica and Wrocław–Milicz routes (from 27 April on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays). The frequency of services on the Wrocław–Lubin route via Legnica will also increase on weekends and public holidays.
Replacement bus services will operate periodically on some lines.
“As usual, we ask passengers to check the timetable after 10 March. Minor adjustments may have been made to daily journeys aboard Koleje Dolnośląskie vehicles, as is customary when timetables change,” says Bartłomiej Rodak, press spokesman for Koleje Dolnośląskie.
