– Police officers from the Zgorzelec “Nysa” group established, as a result of operational work, where a car stolen several days earlier from one of the streets in Zgorzelec might be located – explains Commissioner Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the Commander of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.

She adds: – During the operation, officers found in a car park near one of the stores a Volkswagen that visually matched the stolen vehicle, but had registration plates assigned to another car. Checking the identification numbers confirmed that it had been stolen.

The officers then apprehended a 31-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County who was driving the stolen Volkswagen. The spokesperson said: – A check of the available databases showed that the man was subject to a court-imposed driving ban and was wanted by the prosecutor’s office to establish his place of residence.

What is more, police officers found a number of documents in the vehicle that had been stolen both in Poland and Germany.

The 31-year-old was taken to the Zgorzelec police headquarters, while the car was returned to its owner after the procedural activities had been completed.

Moreover, criminal investigators proved that the detainee had committed a number of shoplifting offences. Commissioner A. Goguł:

The man took cosmetics, perfumes, razors and toothbrushes without paying for them. The total value of the stolen goods was nearly 4,000 zlotys.

As the 31-year-old had already been convicted of this type of offence, he now faces up to 7.5 years in prison.
