On November 2, the campaign staff of Dariusz Kwaśniewski, the Civic Platform candidate for president of Bolesławiec, contacted the Piotr Roman Voters’ Election Committee with a proposal to organize a presidential debate. In response, Tomasz Gabrysiak, the election proxy for Piotr Roman’s Voters’ Election Committee, wrote:
We received the proposal to hold a programmatic debate between Piotr Roman and Dariusz Kwaśniewski with great interest. However, we propose holding the debate after the first round of the presidential election, provided, of course, that Piotr Roman and Dariusz Kwaśniewski compete in the second round. As an Election Committee, we have adopted the principle of equal treatment of all seven candidates and consider it inappropriate to favor any one of them.
The proposed format of the debate seems very interesting, and we suggest returning to discussions about its final form if our candidates meet in the second round of the presidential election.
On Friday, November 5, a press conference was held at the Civic Platform headquarters in Bolesławiec, during which Dariusz Kwaśniewski presented an open letter to the residents of Bolesławiec. We publish the text below.
Residents of Bolesławiec, dear residents!
An election campaign must be a time for talking with residents and for a substantive discussion about the future of Bolesławiec. Someone who avoids such a conversation because they fear it is not really disregarding a rival candidate—they are disregarding the residents.I approached the incumbent president, Mr. Piotr Roman, with a proposal to organize a joint open meeting with residents, where, in your presence, we could discuss the matters that are most important to us. He refused. It is a pity—for the past four years, we have differed on many issues concerning Bolesławiec. They need to be discussed. Nevertheless, I invite everyone interested in our city to the “Presidential Debate”—a confrontation between two experienced local-government officials. I hope that the incumbent president will change his mind and, respecting the residents’ right to learn about different programs for the city’s development, accept my invitation after all. The meeting will be held
on November 12 this year at 5:00 p.m. in the conference room of the District Office, Plac M.J. Piłsudskiego 2 .[podkreślenie red.]
I warmly invite you—
Dariusz Kwaśniewski candidate of the Civic Platform for president of Bolesławiec
