On Saturday, shortly after midnight, the Legnica traffic police saw a Kia driver traveling at excessive speed lose control of the vehicle and hit a roadside sign located on a traffic island near a pedestrian crossing. – The officers signaled to the man to stop for a traffic check, but he had no intention of stopping, accelerated sharply and began to flee – reports Junior Warrant Officer Anna Tersa of KMP in Legnica.
She adds: – The officers began chasing the driver, who continued fleeing despite the visual and audible signals, violating traffic regulations and creating a real danger on the road. On Wrocławska Street, the pursued driver turned into a courtyard and stopped. This did not help much: the damaged vehicle doors prevented him from fleeing the scene.
It turned out that the Kia, rented from a rental company, was being driven by a 20-year-old resident of Legnica who was drunk; a test showed more than one per mille of alcohol in his system.
Police:
Failing to stop for a traffic check is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a driving ban.
