There is no need to convince anyone that an “emergency corridor” helps emergency services quickly reach victims of road incidents. Unfortunately, despite numerous announcements and appeals, we can still see drivers on our roads who use the “emergency corridor” without authorization to bypass traffic jams.
Last week, officers from the Traffic Department of the District Police Headquarters in Środa Śląska, while carrying out their duties, noticed the driver of a Mercedes who decided to use an “emergency corridor” formed because of a traffic jam. The 31-year-old was bypassing the traffic jam by driving behind an emergency vehicle belonging to the Military Gendarmerie. When the police stopped him for a roadside inspection, he explained his extremely irresponsible behavior by saying that he was in a hurry...
For the road offense, the officers issued the driver a deferred-payment fine of PLN 2,500, and 8 penalty points were added to his record.
Police remind drivers!
Driver, remember: the emergency corridor is for services that need to reach the scene quickly to save the health and lives of injured people. It is unacceptable to drive through it “against the flow” in order to get out of a traffic jam! It is also forbidden to obstruct the passage of emergency vehicles! Remember—emergency services may be going to help someone else today, and tomorrow they may be coming to help you! Only emergency vehicles and vehicles belonging to road authorities or roadside assistance providers taking part in a rescue operation may use the emergency corridor.
