When an officer from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec, while off duty, received information that a person's life could be at risk because of low temperatures, he immediately took action.
Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters:
The police officer learned from a bystander that a man he knew personally, who was experiencing homelessness and was most likely under the influence of alcohol, had entered a forest complex in the afternoon. Because of the sub-zero temperatures and the potential danger to the 34-year-old's life, the officer immediately tried to contact him. At one point, the vulnerable man answered the phone, but he did not want to say where he was. The brief conversation convinced the officer that the 34-year-old needed to be found as quickly as possible, because his slurred speech indicated that he was under the influence of alcohol and could soon become hypothermic.
He adds: – The officer drove his private car to the area where the man had last been seen and, despite the gathering dusk, began searching on his own, while also informing the duty officer at the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters about the life-threatening situation and the need to involve on-duty police officers in the search.
After entering deeper into the forest, the officer noticed a person lying in the snow. The Headquarters said: – The man was already severely hypothermic and did not respond to attempts to establish verbal contact. The police officer first checked his vital signs and then carried the 34-year-old to the car to warm him. Meanwhile, the officer informed the Bolesławiec duty officer that medical services needed to be called to the scene. The man was found and transported to hospital by ambulance.
Our police sum up:
Once again, officers from Bolesławiec County showed that the maxim “We help and protect,” which they try to follow every day, applies both in service and outside it.
