Last week, the Basketball League competition began in Zgorzelec. Seven teams are taking part, including TOP Bolesławiec. The basketball standard of the Zgorzelec competition is evidenced by the fact that many players competing in this league have previously played for Turów Zgorzelec. Over the next four months, the teams will play more than 50 games against one another. We should learn the winners of the current competition at the beginning of March 2011.
The Citronex – TOP Bolesławiec game can be considered the most interesting and evenly matched game of the first round. The players from Bolesławiec played with a heavily “depleted” squad. In the opening phase of the game, Citronex’s basketball players performed decisively better; thanks to Mikołajczyk’s strong inside play (28 points in the entire game) and Szulc’s excellent long-range shooting (23 points), they led by 9 points after the first 20 minutes (42:33). In the second half, Kureła’s creative play and Napiórkowski’s effective long-range shots meant that the Bolesławiec players tied the game in the closing stages. In the most important moments of the game, Citronex player Mikołajczyk took responsibility for the play. Both in attack and defense, he produced several effective plays. His successful actions helped his team pull several points ahead at the decisive moment. In the closing stages of the fourth quarter, Citronex’s role players performed well, particularly Grzegorz Nowaczyk, whose hand did not tremble at a crucial moment of the game. In the final seconds, the Bolesławiec players lacked confidence when finishing their attacks, which caused the game to end in an unexpected defeat for them.
Citronex – TOP Bolesławiec 76:69 (17:13, 25:20, 17:20, 17:16).
