Firefighters from PSP Bolesławiec and nearby volunteer fire departments mainly responded during the recent holidays to incidents caused by strong wind gusts, snowmelt and heavy rainfall. During the Christmas holidays, from 24 to 26 December 2023, firefighters intervened 39 times in Bolesławiec County, including 4 fires and 31 local hazards. They were also dispatched 4 times to false alarms.
Below are some of the interventions in Bolesławiec and Bolesławiec County:
- 24 December firefighters intervened 6 times in incidents involving the removal of fallen trees and broken branches from roads.
- 25 December firefighters were dispatched to Godzieszów, where a car collided with a tree blown down by the wind. Five people were traveling in the car. Fortunately, no one was injured. That day, there were also 2 call-outs to incidents involving the removal of the effects of strong winds and 1 call-out to pump out water.
- 26 December firefighters responded to 3 incidents involving the removal of the effects of strong winds and to 3 incidents involving pumping water from flooded buildings, a basement and properties. Some of the interventions in which firefighters pumped water from basements were not caused by rivers overflowing, but by excess water running off the soil after heavy rainfall. In addition, the fire service monitored the condition of rivers in Nowogrodziec Municipality. Due to the flood threat, a crisis management meeting was also held in Nowogrodziec Municipality.
- After the holidays, 27 December firefighters pumped water from the flooded construction site of the water park on Spacerowa Street in Bolesławiec and from the GOPS building in Wierzbowa.
There were also only a few interventions during the holidays related to chimney soot fires and carbon monoxide in buildings.
