The Polish Cukier Polish Senior and Youth Championships will be held at the Lower Silesian Sports Centre at the Jakuszycka Clearing. This is one of the most modern sports facilities in Poland. After its modernisation, it opened in September 2022. It has already hosted the Piast Race, and the 2024 European Junior Biathlon Championships are scheduled to take place there in February. This will also be the first international event of its kind. Before the continental championships, the IBU Junior Cup will also be held there.
During the December Polish Championships in Jakuszyce, two events will be contested: sprint races and mass starts. The last national championships were held in March 2022 in Duszniki Zdrój. In addition to the sprint and mass-start races, an individual race was also held then. Only one athlete who won a Polish championship title in 2022 will have a chance to defend it. Marcin Zawół won the gold medal in the sprint. In the women’s events, the two best competitors of that year, Monika Hojnisz-Staręga and Kamila Żuk, will not be at the start of either race. Grzegorz Guzik, who has ended his career, will not compete in the mass start.
In the 2022 youth competition, Wojciech Filip and Magda Piczura won gold in the mass start and sprint, respectively.
Despite the absence of some athletes, Friday’s competition may be interesting and closely fought. The level of many competitors is evenly matched, which could mean excitement right through to the finish.
