Officers of the Customs and Tax Service of the Lower Silesian KAS and the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit carried out operations targeting the trade in illegal tobacco products. During the inspection, they received information that tobacco products without Polish excise stamps were located in one of the garages in Bogatynia. The officers were assisted by a service dog, a German Shepherd trained to detect tobacco products, which accurately identified the garage.
After establishing the garage owner's identity, officers searched his property, another garage and passenger cars belonging to the resident of Bogatynia. The detained man admitted to storing the illegal goods.
They discovered 5,650 packs of cigarettes and 82 kg of cut tobacco without Polish excise stamps, worth over PLN 147,000.
If the illegal goods had entered illicit circulation, the state budget would have lost over PLN 184,000 in excise duty.
The Lower Silesian KAS reminds the public that purchasing, storing or transporting tobacco products without Polish excise stamps is punishable by up to three years' imprisonment, a fine, or both penalties.
