On Wednesday, October 20, a ceremony was held to mark the 50th anniversary of the Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych im. Jana Kochanowskiego in Bolesławiec. Among those attending were, among others, county head Cezary Przybylski, deputy county head Stanisław Chwojnicki, Chair of the County Council Karol Stasik, member of the Bolesławiec County Board Dariusz Kwaśniewski, Alicja Krzyszczak, head of the Education, Culture, Physical Culture and Sport Department of the Bolesławiec County Office, Mayor Piotr Roman, Deputy Mayor Maciej Małkowski, Chair of the City Council Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, Krystyna Boratyńska, head of the Department of Social Affairs of the City Office, Ewa Lijewska-Małachowska, director of BOK-MCC, and heads of secondary schools.
During the ceremony, Wiesław Stefanik, director of the Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych, spoke. “Today we are taking part in an extraordinary ceremony. Half a century of the school’s existence is a celebration of the teachers, non-teaching staff, students and their parents, as well as Bolesławiec County, which is particularly interested in the school’s development; which participates in our projects, supports us and helps us,” he said. “If I wanted to list all the successes of our institution, I think I would run out of time. An anniversary is also an opportunity to set new goals and take on new challenges and commitments. The Zespół Szkół Handlowych i Usługowych is an open and friendly, modern and creative school. Teachers are not enforcers of knowledge, but guides in the process of development. This is our school’s mission.”
There were also memories. Barbara Kościelewska, a long-serving former director of the institution, and Krystyna Boratyńska, among others, warmly recalled their work at the school. “I spent many truly good years at this school,” the department head stressed. “I came with flowers to sincerely thank everyone who worked with me at this institution, and to wish those I do not know many good experiences and wonderful students.”
Piotr Roman recalled that when he became county head, he offered the position of head of the Education Department to Wiesław Stefanik. “The director initially accepted the offer. The next day, however, he called me and said that he had not slept all night and that he could not leave this school,” the mayor recounted.
Karol Stasik pointed out that a school is not its facilities or buildings, but above all its staff and “its greatest treasure: its graduates.” “It is thanks to this staff that this institution is one of the best in the voivodeship,” the Chair of the County Council added.
Dariusz Kwaśniewski addressed the teachers of ZSHiU: “You can teach in a standard way, or you can teach the way you do. You take additional action—not for yourselves, not for money, but for the students. I sincerely thank you for this quality of teaching and for this above-standard work.”
That day, everyone present in the institution’s assembly hall had the opportunity to watch a multimedia presentation devoted to the school. The ceremony was enhanced by performances including those by the vocal ensemble from the Youth Cultural Centre and dancers from ZSHiU, who presented choreographies prepared by teacher Anna Alicja Serkies. The ceremony was organised by Justyna Janczewska.
