This is what the footbridge that will be built in place of the iconic Łajba is set to look like:
What do you think? Will you miss the Łajba? How do you rate this idea? We invite you to join the discussion.
Let us recall. During the November meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, one opposition councillor asked whether it was necessary to build a footbridge over the pond at a cost of PLN 700,000.
As Mayor Piotr Roman explained, this was the result of a decision by the heritage conservation officer, who forced the Bolesławiec Municipal Commune to demolish the iconic Łajba. Not wanting to leave pillars that would look “like stumps,” the municipal authorities decided to build an observation deck there. In doing so, they are referring to the footbridge that operated there in the second half of the 1980s.
On 18 October, we reported on the demolition of the iconic structure.
We first reported on the whole matter this summer. At the end of the August meeting of the Bolesławiec City Council, local government officials spoke about planned investments. Kazimierz Łomotowski, head of the Municipal Housing Management Facility, mentioned, among other things, that the Łajba would be demolished and that an observation deck would be built in its place. (As emphasized during the August session, a similar type of structure operated there earlier, in the second half of the 1980s).
We will return to the subject.
