– “It is with great sadness that we inform you that our colleague Ireneusz, the second of the police officers shot by a criminal in Wrocław, has died,” the police announced in a statement after 7:20 p.m.

Police statement

Several hours earlier, 45-year-old Daniel Łuczyński, who was in the same patrol as Ireneusz, had died.

“It is with deep sadness and grief that we announce that today, as a result of injuries sustained while on duty, our colleague from the Wrocław-Fabryczna Police Station, Senior Sergeant Daniel Łuczyński, has passed away. He was 45. Having fulfilled to the end the words of the police oath, he leaves behind a grieving family and loved ones. (...) He joined the Police 19 years ago and was always open to the needs of others, sharing his experience and knowledge with younger colleagues. In his life, which ended far too soon, he came to be known as a warm, smiling, kind and helpful colleague. He will remain forever in our hearts as a helpful colleague in service, ready to devote his time to everyone, and as a friend.”

Daniel has left us, leaving his family, friends and everyone who worked with him in despair and deep grief. Chief of Police Inspector General Jarosław Szymczyk, Lower Silesian Provincial Police Commander Police Inspector Dariusz Wesołowski, Wrocław Municipal Police Commander Junior Police Inspector Rafał Siczek, and the management, police officers and employees of the Police extend their condolences and deepest sympathy to the entire family, loved ones, friends and acquaintances. In such a situation, it is not easy to find words of comfort.

Maksymilian F. shot the police officers

The incident occurred on Friday at approximately 10:42 p.m. at 90 Sudecka Street in Wrocław. One of the passers-by witnessed it. First, shots were heard, and moments later a man ran out of a Hyundai parked in the street. A police patrol called to the scene from the station in Krzyki approached the parked vehicle, which turned out to be an unmarked police car.

Two police officers were inside, transporting a 44-year-old man for detention in a room for detained persons (PdOZ). He was wanted to serve a six-month prison sentence. Forty-four-year-old Maksymilian F. shot the officers transporting him in the head.
