– The duty officer at the Zgorzelec police headquarters was notified of a road incident that occurred on provincial road no. 351 in the Pieńsk municipality, where the perpetrator, driving an Audi, left the scene. All patrols on duty were given a message describing the vehicle involved in the incident in order to apprehend the perpetrator – reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the Commander of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.
She adds:
Police officers from the Zgorzelec SPEED group, dispatched to the scene of the collision, spotted a vehicle matching the one described in the message on one of the streets in Zgorzelec while en route. The officers turned around and stopped it for a roadside inspection.
It turned out that a 34-year-old resident of Żary County was behind the wheel of the Audi and was travelling with three children. (Unfortunately, one of them did not have a child seat).
The driver admitted that, while passing another vehicle on a bend, she moved into the middle of the road and clipped another Audi approaching from the opposite direction, then drove away.
A moment later, she was stopped by the injured party from the other vehicle at a petrol station, where, “due to a lack of time,” she threw documents at her and drove away.
The officers detected an odour of alcohol from the 34-year-old. It emerged that the collision perpetrator was completely drunk; she had almost 2.5 per mille of alcohol in her system. What is more, she got behind the wheel despite having three court-imposed driving bans.
The extremely irresponsible woman could now face up to five years in prison.
