Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:
We have submitted two applications to the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Wrocław for decisions on environmental conditions (DŚU) for the expansion of two sections of the A4 motorway from Krzyżowa to Legnica.
The planned expansion of the approximately 35-kilometre section of the A4 motorway from Krzyżowa to Legnica has been divided into two sections:
- a section approximately 14 km long, beginning after the Krzyżowa interchange and ending after the Krzywa interchange;
- a section approximately 21 km long, beginning after the Krzywa interchange and ending before the Legnica Południe interchange.
The road manager explains: – A DŚU is necessary to obtain a decision authorising the implementation of a road investment (ZRID), issued under the Act of 10 April 2003 on special rules for the preparation and implementation of investments in public roads. An information sheet on the project was attached to the application for the environmental decision. It is a study forecasting the impact of the A4 motorway expansion in terms of noise, air pollution and water quality, as well as containing information on its impact on other environmental components, including plants, animals, the climate, the landscape, human health and human life.
It adds: – Based on the analyses referred to above, mitigation measures have been identified. These include the location and parameters of animal crossings, acoustic barriers, water protection facilities, green plantings and the scope of environmental supervision.
What will be done?
Wrocław GDDKiA:
The existing dual-carriageway motorway, with two traffic lanes and no emergency lane, will be replaced with a new one featuring three traffic lanes and an emergency lane. A carriageway will be built parallel to the existing A4, after the interchanges have first been reconstructed and engineering structures built, and traffic will be transferred onto it. This will make it possible to demolish the old pavement and build the new second carriageway. The expansion takes local conditions into account and provides for moving the road farther away from residential buildings in Krzyżowa and Szczytnica.
The project is to be carried out in 2027–2029.
