Customs and Tax Service officers from Zgorzelec detected the illegal import of waste in the form of iron scrap during an inspection on the A4 motorway. The recipient did not have a permit to process the waste and was unable to recover or dispose of the scrap in accordance with regulations.
The Voivodeship Inspectorate for Environmental Protection deemed the transport to be an illegal shipment of waste. Customs and Tax Service officers secured the trailer and its cargo for criminal proceedings. The recipient of the waste faces a fine of PLN 50,000 to PLN 500,000.
We remind you that waste transport must be reported in the Electronic Transport Supervision System (SENT). The SENT system is a tool for combating cross-border crime. It was created to register sensitive goods such as fuel, alcohol, tobacco and waste. The system helps Customs and Tax Service officers carry out effective inspections.
