During the current mushroom season, cauliflower fungus, also known as hen of the woods, is fairly abundant. In the Lower Silesian Wilderness, during an hour of mushroom picking, you can find anywhere from several to more than a dozen fruiting bodies. It was protected from 1990 to 2014.

Since then, it has officially been legal to pick it.

Where can you find cauliflower fungus?

As its name suggests, it grows mainly around pine trees and, less frequently, spruce trees. Its appearance and smell are so distinctive that it is difficult to confuse it with another mushroom. It is crunchy and very tasty. It can be prepared in many ways.
