Poland has approximately 38 million citizens. In the 2021 National Census, over 27% of people declared no affiliation with any religion or refused to answer the question about religious affiliation (6.87% and 20.53%, respectively). Catholic affiliation was declared by 71.30% in 2021. In 2011, Catholics accounted for 87.6%, so the decline amounted to approximately 20% (16 percentage points).

Data published by Statistics Poland show that the highest proportion of Catholic people is in Podkarpacie (83%), and the lowest in Lower Silesia (66.5%).

Detailed data are available on the website of Statistics Poland.

More and more people are leaving the Catholic Church. Some simply do not believe in this ideology. Others believe, but are fed up with scandals caused by priests who demand abstinence from people while leading dissolute lives themselves.

A person who wants to leave the Catholic Church can formally renounce their faith. A declaration form is available on the apostazja.eu website. If you want to learn more about renouncing the faith, watch the discussion featuring, among others, istotne.pl editor Krzysztof Gwizdała and Rev. Kazimierz Sowa.
