Over the weekend, a reader wrote to us:
A new roundabout is being built.
As we have managed to establish, it is not a roundabout but a pedestrian refuge island, which will be built as part of the project “Improving the Safety of Pedestrians and Cyclists in Road Traffic in the Municipality of Bolesławiec”.
Refuge islands of this type will also be built in two other locations:
- near Manhattan, where a pedestrian was fatally struck more than two years ago;
- on Zygmunta Augusta Street, level with the intersection with Murarska Street (access to one of Bolesławiec’s clubs).
City Hall: – The purpose of all the pedestrian refuge islands listed above is to improve pedestrian safety by providing a safe waiting area and shortening the distance pedestrians have to cross the road.
