The agreement between PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. and the Lower Silesian regional government covers the transfer of two railway sections: Jelenia Góra–Lwówek Śląski (railway line no. 283) and Kłodzko Nowe–Stronie Śląskie (railway line no. 322).

– Good cooperation with the authorities of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship is helping implement important projects that form part of the fight against transport exclusion, carried out, among other things, במסגרת the Kolej Plus programme. In Lower Silesia, this cooperation has already resulted in the restoration of services. After the necessary works, trains will also be able to run again between Jelenia Góra and Lwówek Śląski and on the Kłodzko Nowe–Stronie Śląskie section – said Andrzej Bittel, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Government Plenipotentiary for Counteracting Transport Exclusion Andrzej Bittel.

– PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. is creating an efficient and safe railway network through investments that are gradually providing more convenient journeys. Appropriate management of railway lines that, for various reasons, have not been used for years is also an important element in the development of railways. Effective cooperation with local governments makes it possible to make better use of infrastructure that is not included in the Company’s investment plans for the coming years. Transferring such sections to local-government management will give residents better access to rail transport – said Ireneusz Merchel, president of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.

Dolnośląska Służba Dróg i Kolei (DSDiK) will manage the more than 30-kilometre section between Jelenia Góra and Lwówek Śląski, where passenger services have not operated since 2016, as well as the nearly 15-kilometre Kłodzko Nowe–Stronie Śląskie route, which has not been served by passenger trains since 2004. The remaining section of the line, approximately 12 km long, remains under the management of PLK SA and is used for freight traffic by trains serving a quarry.

PLK SA will transfer both sections to the regional government, with the consent of the Ministry of Infrastructure, free of charge for a period of 30 years.
