On her “Przewlekły Pedagog” blog, published on Facebook, a former Polish-language teacher from I LO in Bolesławiec described her conversations with foreigners living in our city and with soldiers from the USA. The conversations concerned how foreigners perceive the women and men of Bolesławiec.
Czy władze miasta powinny oswajać mieszkańców z innością?
The conversations indicate that people with dark skin are exposed to hostile looks and insults such as “ciapaty,” “czarnuch” and “cygan,” and if they dare to appear alone or in a small group after dark, also to thuggish attacks, including beatings. On her blog, the Polish philologist also describes an incident that took place on 12 August in front of Motyw club: eight white men, egged on by bystanders, allegedly beat two Asians (we will ask the police spokesperson about this incident—editor’s note).
“(...) in Bolesławiec (even during the day), the way hostility was demonstrated at the sight of dark skin was the most crude and aggressive; moreover, it was only here that these young men experienced trauma resulting from the threat of losing their lives. And the worst fact was that, although bystanders saw a group of eight white men attacking two small Asian men, not only did none of them come to their defense, but they also egged the thugs on to ‘beat the crap out of the ciapaty.’ And the police, those guardians of the law whose task is to ensure the safety of the vulnerable and wronged? Well, the aforementioned guardians simply do not respond to calls, and no police car appears at the scene of the ‘action’ despite several phone calls.
