– During a night shift in the municipality, officers from the Prevention Unit of the Police Station in Pieńsk stopped the driver of a Mercedes for a roadside check. It turned out that the man was intoxicated – reports Commissioner Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the District Police Commander in Zgorzelec. – The 37-year-old had nearly one per mille of alcohol in his system. This meant the end of his journey and the confiscation of his driving licence.

She adds: – The driver called a friend to come and collect the car.

When the friend arrived at the scene, the officers checked him in the database. It then emerged that... he was wanted under an arrest warrant issued by the District Court in Zgorzelec. (He had a one-year-and-two-month prison sentence to serve).

The outcome? The wanted man has already been remanded in custody, while his friend, who got behind the wheel drunk, now faces up to two years in prison.
