Legnica media report on Legionella bacteria detected at the Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny w Legnicy.
The lca.pl service:
On Tuesday (29 August), the sanitary inspectorate confirmed the presence of Legionella bacteria in one of the hospital’s taps in Legnica. It concerns the Palliative Medicine Ward in the so-called small building, where renovations are being carried out and the hot-water system is rarely used.
Statement from the Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny w Legnicy:
Legionella bacteria? – We answer!
First: we deny the rumours – there are no patients infected with Legionella bacteria in our hospital.
Second: we inform you that recently elevated levels of Legionella were found during routine testing at one point only – in the tap by the washbasin in one of the offices of the Palliative Medicine Ward in the so-called small building, where renovations are being carried out and the hot-water system is used only to a limited extent.
We reassure you that samples from the other points, particularly in the hospital’s main building, showed zero readings.
In response to the elevated results from this one tap, we have taken appropriate action.
- We have taken this point out of service and begun its chemical disinfection, as well as thermal disinfection of the domestic hot-water system.
In addition, until further notice, we have introduced thermal disinfection of the domestic hot-water system throughout the hospital, including the hospital’s main building.
