Today, agreements were signed at Wrocław’s Świebodzki railway station between PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe and the contractors responsible for the design work. The meeting was attended, among others, by Marshal Cezary Przybylski, members of the voivodeship board Tymoteusz Myrda and Krzysztof Maj, as well as Andrzej Bittel, the government plenipotentiary for preventing transport exclusion.

– This is another example of good cooperation between the local government and the national government. This morning, we opened a new service hall for Koleje Dolnośląskie, financed mostly with EU funds, and now agreements are being signed for projects to be carried out by the government. The people of Lower Silesia will benefit above all from this cooperation in the common area of rail transport – says Marshal Cezary Przybylski. – Of the more than 300 km of railway routes we have taken over, 150 km have already been revitalized. The rolling stock of Koleje Dolnośląskie and the number of passengers using the regional carrier’s services are also growing steadily.

Three Lower Silesian railway projects will be carried out under the government’s Kolej Plus program. So far, agreements have been signed for two of them:

  • Improving the quality of connections from Legnica to Wrocław on the Środa Śląska–Wrocław section. The project involves rebuilding the station’s track layout to enable additional suburban and urban trains to operate toward Kąty Wrocławskie, Środa Śląska and Wołów, as well as shortening the travel time of trains operating on longer routes.
The work will include rebuilding three tracks and three platform edges at Wrocław Świebodzki station, constructing a second track on the Wrocław Świebodzki–Wrocław Muchobór section, and building a station in Środa Śląska, which will allow suburban trains planned to run from Wrocław Świebodzki station to terminate there.
Further expansion of the station is also being analyzed, involving the construction of connecting tracks toward Wrocław Mikołajów station, to enable connections toward Oborniki Śląskie, Trzebnica, Oleśnica and Jelcz-Laskowice via Wrocław Swojczyce.
  • Revitalizing the railway lines forming the Zgorzelec–Bogatynia transport corridor. The project involves modernizing the railway line from Zgorzelec to Bogatynia. Including Bogatynia in the voivodeship’s regional passenger rail system will make it possible to establish connections, among others, with Bolesławiec, Legnica and Wrocław.
