The duty officer at the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters noticed that a man who had shortly beforehand taken a test on a publicly accessible breathalyser and received a positive result got behind the wheel of a car. Officers: “He immediately tasked a patrol with checking the driver, who turned out to be a resident of Lwówek County. The sobriety test showed that the 21-year-old should not have been driving because he was in a state following alcohol consumption.
They added: “Further findings by the officers confirmed that the young man had also arrived at the police station while driving the vehicle himself.
They further stated: “The 21-year-old showed an exceptionally dismissive attitude towards regulations and the safety of himself and other road users. The driver has already lost his driving licence; the court will decide for how long.
Police:
We remind you that a state following alcohol consumption means the presence of 0.1 mg/l to 0.25 mg/l of alcohol in the body, which translates into 0.2‰ to 0.5‰. A driver operating a car while in a state following alcohol consumption commits the offence specified in Article 87 §1 of the Code of Petty Offences. A state of intoxication, on the other hand, exists when the alcohol content in the body amounts to or results in more than 0.25 mg/l or more than 0.5‰ in exhaled air, and a driver operating a vehicle with such an alcohol concentration commits the offence specified in Article 178a §1 of the Criminal Code.
(...) it is unacceptable for someone who suspects they may be under the influence of alcohol to drive to the test themselves.
