The classes began at the end of August. There was such great interest that the organisers created as many as two groups. The workshops are attended, among others, by parents of children taking ceramics classes and students of the University of the Third Age. “I decided to come to these workshops because creating and contact with art are wonderful things,” says Łucja Mielczarek from Bolesławiec. “I have been attending painting classes at the Youth Cultural Centre for three years. Glinart is a break from painting for me; it gives me the joy of creating and satisfaction.”
Participants create works inspired by Cretan art. “This art fascinates me,” emphasises Joanna Mysłek-Michnowska, who leads the Glinart workshops for adults. “I try to make it an inspiration for the workshop participants as well.”
“Glinart fits perfectly with the mission and vision of the MDK. We give the residents of our county the opportunity to engage with art. In addition to regular classes, we try to organise open workshops as often as possible. In this way, we promote our educational offering and implement our own vision for the institution,” says Marek Łętowski, head of the MDK. “We want the Youth Cultural Centre to be a haven for seekers of cultural adventures.”
And these activities are producing results. “Most workshop participants have enrolled in regular ceramics classes,” says Joanna Mysłek-Michnowska. “If someone is drawn to art, it means they are young at heart.”
