– We were very pleased by this news. I am glad that the grant from the Programme will make it possible to renovate the historic school – says Bolesławiec County Governor Tomasz Gabrysiak.
On 17 July, a site inspection was held at the General and Vocational Education Complex with the participation of Member of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland Szymon Pogoda, who helped the county authorities obtain the funds.
The construction work at the school will include the partial replacement of the roofing on the ZSOiZ buildings in Bolesławiec at 6 and 7 Komuny Paryskiej Street. It is worth noting that the buildings receiving a “new lease of life” were designed by the famous architect Friedrich Engelhardt Gansel, and their construction was completed in 1844. They stand in a row of adjoining buildings, directly next to one another, and share a roof.
For many years, only routine repairs to the roofing were carried out, involving the replacement of missing roof tiles. The construction work now made possible by the grant will include repairs to the roof trusses of both buildings, replacement of the roof connection, insulation of the roof slopes together with the replacement of the breathable roofing membrane.
The roof – with the “fish-scale” tiles dedicated to historic buildings – will be revitalized. The work plan includes repairs to gutters and downpipes, as well as replacement of the lightning protection system. The project also includes renovation work in the school attic. The work will involve replacing damaged floorboards and wooden railings on the stairs leading to the attics of the buildings.
The roof repair will protect the buildings from further damage, help preserve their current architectural form and positively affect the appearance of the buildings situated along Komuny Paryskiej Street, which in the 1870s formed part of Bolesławiec’s representative villa district, compared with Berlin’s Westend.
The investment will also have a positive effect on the image of the school, where young people have been educated for over 60 years. Currently, 672 students attend ZSOiZ, and the school employs 65 teachers.
