Legnica police officers, under the supervision of a prosecutor, are investigating the circumstances of a road accident that occurred today on Fiołkowa Street in Legnica. Unfortunately, despite the rescue efforts undertaken, the 21-year-old woman died. Officers detained the driver of the car, who had more than 2‰ of alcohol in his exhaled breath. Causing an accident while under the influence of alcohol is punishable by up to 12 years in prison.
At around 7:30 a.m., officers from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica received a report about an intoxicated man who was driving a Ford Focus along Wielogórska Street. Road traffic police immediately went to the scene. On Jaworzyńska Street, they spotted the reported vehicle and followed it.
The officers activated their lights and siren to stop the vehicle for a roadside inspection. The man behind the wheel of the Ford ignored the orders to stop and began to flee. Ignoring traffic regulations, the driver recklessly turned into the Sienkiewicza Estate.
On Fiołkowa Street, the driver most likely lost control of the vehicle on a bend, hit a woman and crashed into vehicles parked by a property. Police officers immediately began resuscitation, continuing until the ambulance arrived. Unfortunately, despite the resuscitation efforts, the 21-year-old woman died.
A breathalyzer test showed that the Ford driver had more than 2‰ of alcohol in his exhaled breath. In addition, after checking the 24-year-old man in police information systems, officers found that he had two active bans on driving motor vehicles.
Legnica traffic police officers, the investigative and forensic team, and a prosecutor worked at the scene. Evidence is being secured.
